At River Valley we create the opportunity for high school students jump start their college experience. We have multiple programs for you to use to graduate high school ahead of the curve and walk across the graduation stage with a college diploma in record time. Programs such as  Early College at Your High School (formally known as Running Start) and Early College at RVCC (formally known as Bridge2College) are available through River Valley Community College.

New Hampshire high school students taking courses through these programs are allowed two free courses per academic year through the NH Governor’s Scholarship.

We encourage high school students to utilize our programs to work toward a degree at RVCC or other colleges within or outside the CCSNH system. Our goal is to help students earn an RVCC Associate Degree upon high school graduation. Please note that all colleges require that a portion of credits (usually 25%) be earned at the college granting a degree. We can help students navigate this process in order to earn a degree at a specific college.

For more information on these programs please email our Early College Coordinator Jerry Appell or contact by him by phone at 603-542-7744 ext.5349.

Early College at RVCC – FAQ’s

Early College at RVCC is a program where high school students take college courses for college credit. Depending on the course, your high school may also take the credit for high school credit as well. Earned credits can be applied towards a degree at River Valley Community College (RVCC) or can be transferred to another college or university.

Early College ay RVCC provides motivated students the opportunity to take college level courses while in high school – and at an affordable rate! You might take courses your high school doesn’t offer or get started on your career! You will be exposed to various career paths and learn what is expected in college academic life. You can accelerate your time towards a degree or certificate that will save you time and money.

Meet with your school counselor or parent. Together, you will decide if you are ready and can determine which college course would best meet your needs and interests. Your counselor or parent can also advise you as to whether the course will satisfy a high school requirement. The program is open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Use the online form on this page to register for your course. Please complete all sections of the form and do not leave any areas blank.  If you are under 18 years of age, your parent/guardian will also need to sign the form.

Courses offered for the upcoming term

Yes! Follow the same process as described above. For homeschooled students your parent or guardian is the person who serves as your advisor, counselor, and high school director. They will serve in that function as you complete your online registration form.

The current cost for a three credit course is $322.00. This is heavily discounted over the typical fee of $645.00 per three credit course. This tuition rate extends through the summer semester following high school graduation. There is also the NH Governor’s Scholarship that provides two tuition free courses per academic year to qualified NH high school students

These are decisions you make with your high school counselor. Online courses are available but you may want to reflect on whether online courses are an appropriate fit with your learning style.

You can request an official transcript be sent to the college/university you are attending. If the course you take will be accepted for high school credit, your high school may ask for an official transcript. As an RVCC student we will provide these transcripts at $5.00 per request. Your dual enrollment courses are part of you official academic record at RVCC. We cannot, however, guarantee that another college or university will accept the credits you take at RVCC. That decision is made by the college or university you choose to attend. Our transfer specialist, Elizabeth Guimond, can assist with this process.
